Regular Full Time Employee

DEPARTMENT: Convention Center
DIVISION: Concessions


The purpose of this position is lead staff responsible for providing basic hospitality and customer service, monitoring providing crowd control, and performing basic security functions during conventions, tradeshows, and other public events. Employees in this classification perform security functions such as monitoring and controlling restricted-access areas, directing crowds and traffic, closing and locking doors, and general monitoring of activity within the facility; this position will not serve as a security guard.

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Leads and oversees the work of assigned crew(s): trains crew members in all essential functions; provides guidance to subordinates as needed; reviews performance; initials discipline as necessary; and addresses complaints and resolves problems in conjunction with Convention Center Management.

Responsible for supervising, training and motivating team. Educates staff(s) on company policies and procedures. Provides feedback for improvements when necessary. Must be able to effectively train employees in their assigned job responsibilities.

Responsible for keeping inventory fully stocked, cooking, cleaning, and cash register operation. Responsible for unloading deliveries, setting and tearing down mobile carts.

Must be able to lift moderate amount of weight.

Leads and provides routine hospitality and customer service to team while delegating responsibilities and ensuring high quality food and service in their location. Responsible for keeping locations clean and sanitized.

Leads the implementation of safety measures falling under the oversight of the Convention Services team: monitors of activity within the facility; identifies and reports potential safety hazards and resolves them if possible; provides limited first aid and assistance to individuals to patrons or obtains assistance from response personnel as needed; and assists with the evacuation of team members during emergency situations.
Maintain daily activity log reports. Prepare incident reports for accidents, personal injury or theft.

May be temporarily assigned to the Convention Center Administration office: answers and expedites incoming phone calls, greets and directs visitors and clients, and performs routine clerical tasks.

Performs duties of subordinates and other related functions as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; two years of experience in security, hospitality, or concierge / customer services required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license.
