Temporary Part Time Employee - $12.70 Hourly

DEPARTMENT: Convention Center

Maintenance Workers assigned to Convention Center perform the following additional duties:
Cleans and scrubs convention center floors, bleachers, and chairs; waxes floors; cleans and shampoos carpets; cleans windows, restrooms, escalator, compactor area, marquee signs, parking lot grounds, and offices.

Sets up exhibit booths; sets up barricades for crowd control; sets up basketball court; sets up ballrooms and meeting rooms.  

Maintains reflecting pool, cement pond, and fountain.  

Makes repairs to bathroom plumbing; unclogs toilets; stocks supplies.  

Moves air wall panels; positions bleachers; places guard rails on bleachers; builds stages.

Paints surfaces; builds shelves; patches walls.

Patches and cleans roof drains.  

Exterminates insects and rodents.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Attends meetings, workshops and training as necessary.

Assists in preparing for and cleaning up after natural disasters as necessary.

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; some experience in landscape maintenance and manual labor work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license or commercial driver's license (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Leads the work of part-time staff and trains new staff members regarding daily operations, including food preparation, cooking, and cleaning and equipment operation.

Prepares food items to specifications; peels, cuts, chops, dices, slices, minces, chops and prepares ingredient items to be cooked; prepares bulk items to specifications by following recipes.

Cooks food items according to orders; grills and deep fried foods; evaluates and ensures product quality; coordinates food production and quantities according to business levels.

Cleans and sanitizes workstation and equipment according to established schedule and specifications; vacuums and mops floors; scrubs grill and deep fryer; washes pots, pans and other food service equipment.

Maintains and operates food service equipment, including soda fountain, beer tap, and ice machine; changes or replenishes as needed.

Maintains inventory and supplies; organizes freezers, dry storage and refrigerators according to first in/first out; inventories food and supplies; ensures proper rotation of inventory; ensures all food items are stored properly; initiates orders for replacement as needed.

Opens and closes register; receives monies for payment of food and beverages; prepares bank deposits; verifies counts; maintains related documentation.

Ensures departmental compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individual; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.

Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, or other documents.

Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, recipes, equipment manuals, policies, procedures, catalogs, rules or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

Communicates with supervisor, City employees, sales representatives, the general public, or other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction.

Operates a cash register, adding machine, deep fryer, grill, oven, range, steam table, meat slicer, beverage cart, coffee maker, soda machine, beer dispenser, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required.

High school diploma or GED; six months experience in food preparation and service; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.



CONVENTION SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE  - APPLY HERE

DEPARTMENT: Convention Center

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.  

Controls entry and traffic access to events, assist with informing and enforcing policies and procedures of facility to patrons and vendors. Assist with crowd control during heavily attended events.  

Provides hospitality and security while assisting visitors, giving directions, information on accommodations, tradeshows and public events. Insures proper direction and safety of vehicles entering and leaving paid parking lot, collects and controls fees.  

Patrols area to prevent disorderly conduct, rowdiness, or to detect other infractions of rules. Assist patrons with questions regarding events and exhibit hall locations, local attractions and locations throughout the City.  

Patrols tradeshows and conventions during operating and non-operating hours to ensure unauthorized access and or theft.  

Maintains daily activity log reports, prepare incident reports for accidents, personal injury or theft. Ability to provide limited first aid and assistance to individuals.  

Assigned to the Convention Center Administration office temporarily to work the front desk, answer and expedite incoming phone calls, greet and direct visitors and clients. Responsible for performing front office duties and responsibilities.  

Secures facility during non-operating hours including, but not limited to, shutting down of equipment, closing and locking of doors, turning on or off lighting and patrol of interior and exterior of building.  

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS 
Must be willing to respond to customer needs and complaints in a professional manner.

 May be assigned to work in the loading dock area receiving, expediting and signing for small freight shipments to the facility.

Assist in evacuation of building during emergency situations, controlling access to restricted areas of building.

 Operate and review the in house security camera system.  May perform maintenance duties, such as set up and tear down of events, keeping areas clean.

 Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 years of age; have a high school diploma or GED, and must have strong customer service skills. Must pass a background check and a credit report. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time, must be dependable and willing to work a variety of schedules, including holidays, days, evenings and weekends; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license. Must have a professional presentation, appearance and work ethic.
